Business Plans
A business plan is used to detail plans for a start-up or existing business. This document is used to describe business goals and strategies, as well as providing a blueprint for financing and marketing plans. Essentially, it provides detailed information about where a company is going and how it will get there.
Many experts consider such a plan critical to the success of a business. In larger scale projects involving managing staff and facilities, the grant funders require a business plan to satisfy themselves that the business has a strong chance of succeeding.
A business plan is not just useful for obtaining funding, this type of plan may be reviewed and revised when necessary, allowing those operating a business to retain the strategies that work, eliminate those that don’t, and review objectives as the business evolves.
Feasibility Studies
A feasibility study is completed prior to a business plan and is used to help determine whether an idea or business is a viable option that is worth the time, effort and resources.
In order to create a Feasibility Study, groups need to define the nature and scope of their activities which should include their operational, financial and marketing viabilities.
The Feasibility Study should demonstrate “Evidence of Need” and “Adequate Community Consultation and Support”
Options Appraisals
Options appraisals are simply justifications of how you have arrived at one decision over another. In many instances applications for grants must provide an options appraisal and it is usually a consultant who prepares this for their client.
Options appraisals are an essential part of any project (especially those involving land and buildings). It assists you in planning your project effectively and, if the process is well managed, it will help maximise the chances that your project will meet those needs identified within your community.
In short the options appraisal will ensure that you have considered all of the key points before you make your decisions. It will also allow you to make clear, informed and objective judgements, as well as helping to minimise any uncertainties.
